For the past several months, the Gwinnett County Police Department has been replacing patrol car decals with a new design. The former decal had been in circulation since 1999/2000. Retired Police Chief Charles Walters, along with a group of officers, recommended the fading graphics be redesigned and updated.

GCPD anticipate the new graphics, with larger and more reflective word POLICE, will enhance officer safety as well and improve crime prevention and deterrence efforts by making the car more visible and distinguishable to citizens and criminals.

Approximately 35 police vehicles currently have the new decals. Another 113 vehicles, out of the 698-vehicle fleet, are nearly ready. The transition to new decals will take five years to complete.
