New Gwinnett commissioner to be sworn in today

Sept 17, 2012

Jace Brooks of Suwanee will be sworn in as the new District 1 Gwinnett County commissioner today.

Brooks will fill the unexpired term of Shirley Lasseter, who resigned in May. Though the special election to fill Lasseter’s term won’t be held until Nov. 6, state and county attorneys determined Brooks can take office immediately because he is the only candidate.

The unexpired term ends in December. Brooks also is the only candidate on the general election ballot to fill the District 1 seat for a new term beginning in January.
