Nancy Mace: A living legacy

Nancy Mace, the first woman to graduate from The Citadel, may be written in history books, but she does not trade on that status.

Nancy Mace, who became the first female Citadel graduate in 1999, now lives in metro Atlanta with her husband and two children.

Mace listens quietly to other members of the Corp of Cadets at as they discuss the issue of sexual harrassment. In 1997, The Citadel, reeling from allegations that two female cadets left because they were hazed and harassed, cancelled classes and ordered all 1,700 cadets to attend sensitivity training.

Mace speaks with author Pat Conroy at the Carter Center in Atlanta. Conroy, a 1967 Citadel graduate, has been a very strong supporter of Mace.
