Gwinnett County police Monday afternoon identified the two motorists killed in a wreck that shut down a major thoroughfare for more than three hours earlier in the day.
The wreck happened just before 5 a.m. on U.S. 29 at Patterson Road, east of Ga. 316 in the northern part of the county.
Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said investigators believe that a 2010 Toyota Corolla was northbound "at a high rate of speed," and crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, striking a 1984 Toyota Cressida head-on.
Both the Corolla driver, Dafney J. Perez, 22, of Lawrenceville, and the Cressida driver, Samnang Chea, 68, of Lawrenceville, died at the scene.
Ritter said all lanes of U.S. 29 were shut down as authorities investigated the wreck. The road was reopened to traffic about 8:15 a.m.
