Motorcyclist dies in Marietta crash
A Marietta man died Wednesday when he drove a motorcycle into a brick pillar along Johnson Ferry Road.
Mark Conroy, 60, was riding a 1998 Honda Gold Wing in the outside southbound lane when he went over the curb, across the sidewalk and into the pillar, which was part of a fence, said Sgt. Dana Pierce of the Cobb County Police Department.
Conroy was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, but died from his injuries, Pierce said.
Investigators believe Conroy may have been cut off by a driver who switched into his lane, Pierce said. Police are looking for a late model gray or black Ford F-150 extended cab pickup, with a Georgia Bulldogs sticker on the back window.
"It's going to be prudent for that person to come forward and assist us with our investigation," Pierce told the AJC. He said it's likely that the motorcyclist crashed because he took evasive action to avoid a collision with the pickup.
Witnesses saw the crash, which occurred just north of Willows Way around 4:45 p.m. But police want more information and are asking any motorist who was in the area or who witnessed the crash to call them at 770-499-3987.
