A mother and her boyfriend were arrested in Hall County after a 3-year-old ingested an illegal narcotic, officials said Tuesday.

Brenda Chadale Jones, 28, and Joshua James Starley, 31, both of Gainesville, face charges after a child was left unattended and ate methamphetamine July 23, Hall County sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Scott Ware said.

The child was released from the hospital the same day in good condition, Ware said.

Starley allegedly kicked in an interior door and struck Jones in the head hard enough to make her bleed that same day, Ware said. Three children witnessed the attack and Starley was arrested on charges of criminal trespass, battery and three counts of cruelty to children.

Investigators with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office and Hall County Division of Family and Children Services on Thursday also obtained arrest warrants for Jones, the child’s mother.

They added a felony cruelty to children charge for Starley, who has remained in the Hall County jail.

Jones was arrested Saturday, according to jail records. Her bond is $11,200.
