The Morrow City Council last week chose to amend the emergency services provided to both Morrow and Lake City.

Morrow has provided fire, EMS and 911 services to itself and Lake City for 16 years, renewing the last contract in 2010.

In the regularly sceduled council meeting, Morrow decided it would no longer provide 911 services.

If Lake City approves, the next step would be for both cities to make an arrangement with Clayton County to use its new $60 million digital intercommunication system. Morrow would then no longer need to budget the $650,000 cost to the city.

Morrow City Manager Sylvia Redic said she hopes the county will extend jobs to the city dispatchers.

“Our biggest concern is for our 911 dispatchers to have jobs with the county,” she said. “We have a dispatcher who’s worked 20 years here.”
