The mother of a Richmond County elementary school student was arrested Tuesday after her 8-year-old showed up with a handgun, officials said.

Tangie Tykiri Pearson allegedly put a stolen handgun in her child’s backpack before the student arrived at Windsor Spring Elementary in Augusta, the Augusta Chronicle reports.

The 28-year-old mother was arrested after her child showed the guns to peers.

Pearson was granted a $10,000 bond for charges of theft by receiving stolen property and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
