Milton has been awarded a $12,274 grant to support its Community Emergency Response Team program; residents are trained to respond to disaster situations “where citizens may initially be on their own,” the city announced.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency developed CERT training. Milton introduced the program last year with the support of the Atlanta Fulton County Emergency Management Agency and recently graduated its first class of volunteers.

An initial grant, from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security through the Urban Area Security Initiative, provided Milton with response kits, command and coordination equipment, a tent and other essential disaster supplies.

“This grant allows us to grow the program, provide additional training and support to our volunteers, and hopefully build an increasingly resilient Milton,” said Matt Marietta, the city’s emergency manager.
