Some metro Atlanta voters will go to the polls on Tuesday. Here’s what’s at stake:

*Gwinnett County voters will elect a new chairman of the Board of Commissioners. The post has been vacant since Chairman Charles Bannister resigned in October to avoid a perjury charge. Many residents say the election is a watershed for a county in which voter trust has been tarnished by a series of controversies.

*Cobb County residents will vote on a four-year sales tax extension that would generate about $492 million for roads, parks and infrastructure renovation projects. The issue had divided the county between those opposed to the tax measure and those who think it’s the best way to pay for the projects it would fund.

*Sandy Springs residents will fill the vacant District 4 City Council seat. Three candidates are vying to replace Ashley Jenkins, who had served on the council since 2006 but stepped down in January to pursue a career in the travel industry.
