Former state James Mills of Gainesville took his oath Monday and joined the five-member state Board of Pardons and Paroles.
Mills, a Republican, replaced Gale Buckner who was named commissioner of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Initially, Mills was going to move to Pardons and Paroles after the end of the year, but the schedule was moved ahead when Buckner left the board to run DJJ. The DJJ commissioner's job became vacant when Amy Howell left to be general counsel at the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. RHONDA COOK
