The Georgia Supreme Court on Monday ruled that murder charges against a Fulton County man should not be dismissed on speedy trial grounds.

Timothy Leroy Wilkie was arrested in 2005 for killing Allen Morris with a crossbow. After he was indicted in January 2011, Wilkie said the charges should be dismissed. The state high court said that even though the five-and-a-half year delay from his arrest was "presumptively prejudicial," Wilkie had waited too long before asserting his rights and there was no demonstrable proof the delay prejudiced his case. Police in Georgia and Alabama are looking for a man accused of cashing $7,000 worth of counterfeit checks at Wal-Mart stores in metro Atlanta.

The checks are fakes, according to Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. But the account number on the checks is real and belongs to the Tuscaloosa County Jail, Baker said Monday.

Approximately 10 checks have been cashed at Wal-Marts in Woodstock, Cartersville, Kennesaw, Acworth, Cumming, Lawrenceville and Alpharetta, according to police.

Investigators hope pictures taken from Wal-Mart security cameras will help identify the man responsible. Anyone with information regarding the suspect is asked to contact the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office at 205-464-8646. ALEXIS STEVENS
