As other states send back federal high-speed rail grants to Washington, the Georgia Department of Transportation is asking for more, to help build a new Amtrak station at Atlantic Station.
The DOT has applied for $22.6 million for the $38 million project. The current station in Brookwood has “extremely poor” road and mass transit access -- and a condemned parking structure -- according to the application.
The station could be open at the end of 2012.
