Metro Atlanta lost 23,000 construction jobs over a 12-month time frame that ended in November, according to figures from the Associated General Contractors of America.

The loss is a 19 percent drop in jobs that fall under the construction industry, the group reported.

Metro Atlanta's jobless rate for November was 10.1 percent, the state labor department said last month. The area had 142,649 fewer jobs than it did in November 2008. Chief among the jobs lost were those in construction as well as manufacturing, the labor department said.

Georgia lost 34,100 construction jobs, a 17 percent drop, over that year time frame, the contractor’s group said.

The state was among 23 others that lost construction jobs between October and November 2009.
