Two men from metro Atlanta were sentenced to federal prison Thursday for an attempted carjacking in the parking lot of a Chamblee Sam’s Club, the U.S. Department of Justice said.
Arsalan Khalid Khan, 27, of Cumming, and Patrick Davis Gegenheimer, 24, of Atlanta, pleaded guilty to charges of attempted armed carjacking on March 19, 2018.
Both Khan and Gegenheimer were sentenced to 10 years in prison and 5 years of supervised release.

The pair approached a shopper in the Sam’s Club parking lot on Sept. 1, 2017, as the shopper was loading items into his car, according to a Justice Department release. Khan pointed a gun at the shopper and demanded the man’s car keys. The man gave Khan the keys, and Khan demanded the man get in the car. The man then grabbed the gun and wrestled it away from Khan, the Justice Department said.
The gun went off during the struggle, injuring Khan’s hand. Khan and Gegenheimer fled the parking lot on foot, but were arrested by Chamblee police minutes later.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Chamblee Police Department. It was brought to federal court as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, which focuses on prosecuting “individuals who most significantly drive violence in our communities,” the Justice Department said.
