North Cobb’s Melanie Oudin got off to a good start at Wimbledon, knocking off Anna-Lena Groenfeld of Germany in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0 in Monday’s opening round.

Oudin, the 33rd seed, advances to face Jarmila Groth, a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Renata Voracova, on Wednesday.

Oudin reached the quarterfinals at last year’s Wimbledon as a qualifier. She also reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open.

Her luck hasn't been as good at this year's majors. She lost in the first rounds at both the Australian and French Open.
