A bullet-filled pickup found loaded with more than 650 pounds of marijuana had been stolen earlier the same day in DeKalb County, Atlanta police say.
Police investigating the sounds of gunfire Aug. 21 found the truck, a Chevrolet C15, in the middle of the Farrington Road -- Martin Street intersection in southeast Atlanta.
Police did not find a shooting victim, but did seize 54 bales of marijuana and more than $7,000 in cash.
Earlier the same day, the owner of the truck was shot in the knee by a gunman in the parking lot of a Waffle House on Wesley Chapel Road, according to DeKalb police report.
The truck owner, from Wadley, Ga., exited the restaurant and was approached by a man who appeared from behind an adjacent check cashing business. The men got in a "tussle" and the truck owner was shot in the knee.
The gunman fled in the truck down I-20 towards Atlanta at about 9 a.m. A short time later the truck, loaded with marijuana, was discovered by Atlanta police.
No arrests have been made, or warrants issued in the case, Atlanta police spokesman John Chafee said Monday.
The seized marijuana will likely be burned in an incinerator at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Chafee said.
