The Marietta City Council is expected to discuss this month whether to spend $90,000 in extra funding for tourism grants.

The agenda work session will be 5:15 p.m. Monday in the City Hall Council Chambers, 205 Lawrence St. with the voting meeting set for 7 p.m. Wednesday.

If approved, expenditures would go to:

  • The Earl Smith Strand Theatre of $28,000 for a Halloween-themed education show for young children, Cobb Idol, Cobb Idol Jr. with Marietta's Zach Seabaugh of "The Voice," orchestra pit expansion and a retractable awning for the rooftop terrace
  • Georgia Ballet of $5,000 to pay for guest performers in starring roles in "The Nutcracker"
  • Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art of $15,000 for more security, insurance for a Coca-Cola exhibition in April and public art by children for park benches
  • Marietta Gone With The Wind Museum of $22,000 to develop an annual film festival beyond "Gone With The Wind" with celebrity appearances from "To Kill a Mockingbird" (Mary Badham as "Scout") and "American Graffiti"
  • Marietta Museum of History of $15,000 for family night events at least two nights a month
  • Symphony on the Square of $5,000

Council members also will be discussing whether to give additional funding to the Marietta Welcome Center for increased digital marketing.
