Once in the Marietta city limits beginning 104 years ago, now the Marietta Church of God is back in Marietta.

The Marietta City Council voted 7-0 on Sept. 11 to allow the church’s annexation of around 15 acres from unincorporated Cobb County into the city.

At 1083 Allgood Road since 1975, the church also received rezoning from R-20 (single-family residential) to R-2 (single-family residential at two units/acre) with a Special Land Use Permit for a place of assembly.

Marietta Church of God also is known as GraceLife Church.

For the city’s Future Land Use, the property will be designated CSI (Community Service and Institutional).

Approval also was recommended 7-0 by the Marietta Planning Commission.

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners had no objections to the annexation.
