A 54-year-old man who had been reported missing for a couple of days was found in his truck, a Cherokee County fire official said.

The man was conscious but may have been suffering from hypothermia (a below-normal body temperature), Tim Cavender said in a news release Thursday.

After Pickens County sheriff’s officials picked up a “ping,” a family member contacted Cherokee County 911 and said her brother’s vehicle had been found, and she requested a deputy to go to the location, Cavender said.

Deputies responded to a site off Highway 372 between Ball Ground and Free Home, according to Cavender. Deputies went a few miles on a dirt road and found the man, whose identity was not released, lying in his truck, which was stuck.

Fire officials were summoned to the scene and reached the man about 2 p.m. He was taken to Northside Hospital-Cherokee to be checked out.
