A man was killed during a shootout on a downtown Atlanta street Sunday night, and police arrested a man who later showed up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm and charged him with murder.
Police spokeswoman Kim Jones told the AJC that about 7:45 p.m., officers were flagged down in the 100 block of Peachtree Street "by a citizen who advised they heard gunshots around Mitchell Street and Forsyth Street."
When officers went to that location, they found the victim lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest. The man, whose name has not been released, later died of his injuries, Jones said.
She said officers recovered a weapon that was on the ground near the victim.
"A short time later, security from the federal building advised they saw a person running from the scene," Jones said. That man, who had apparently also been shot, got into a vehicle and left the area.
Lamarius Jackson, 37, later showed up at Grady Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm.
"He was very evasive and stated he was shot somewhere around Auburn Avenue," Jones said.
Early Monday, police charged Jackson with murder. He is being held in the Fulton County Jail.
Sunday night's shooting happened about two blocks southwest of the location where a man was shot and killed Friday night.
In that shooting, at least four shots were fired near the entrance to Underground Atlanta at Upper Alabama and Peachtree streets.
Demons Hambrick was struck in the back, and died before reaching Grady Memorial Hospital.
