The 62-year-old man accused of killing his sister was convicted by a Fulton County jury today. He was sentenced to life in prison by visiting Senior Superior Court Judge Robert Mallis, the District Attorney's office said.

According to a news release, a jury found Willie Jackson guilty after a four-day trial and convicted him of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony for the stabbing death of his sister, Willie Mae Jackson, who was 66.

On May 4, 2006, police responded to a call made by a witness to the scene. The witness said Jackson, who lived with his sister in an apartment in Atlanta, stormed into her bedroom wielding a knife and accusing her of stealing his check, the release states. Jackson then threatened to kill her, authorities said.

When police arrived, Jackson barricaded himself in the apartment and waved a "machete" out of the window at police while yelling he had killed someone for stealing his check, officials said. An Atlanta SWAT team entered the apartment and apprehended Jackson.

The victim was found dead with 28 stab wounds to her body, officials said.

Willie Mae Jackson was the caretaker for her brother, who was diagnosed with a long history of schizophrenia, authorities said.
