Atlanta police Friday were trying to determine if a suspect arrested in Midtown for an early morning purse-snatching was also involved in a robbery and shooting near the Fox Theatre.

About 1:20 a.m. Friday, an Atlanta police officer working an off-duty job with the Midtown Blue security force spotted a PT Cruiser believed to have just been involved in the armed robbery of a pedestrian at the intersection of Peachtree and 3rd streets, police spokeswoman Kim Jones told the AJC.

When an officer in a marked Atlanta police car tried to stop the PT Cruiser, the driver refused to stop and led the officer on a brief chase before pulling into the loading dock area of the Four Season Hotel on 14th Street, Jones said.

“The driver, Brandon Harris, bailed out of the vehicle carrying a purse,” Jones said. Harris, 29, was taken into custody after a short foot chase.

“During the foot pursuit, Mr. Harris dropped the purse, belonging to a pedestrian robbery victim from Peachtree Street and 3rd Street,” Jones said. That victim was robbed at gunpoint, and police found a handgun in the purse, she said.

About the same time police were chasing Harris, Guillame Monfette, 31, entered the lobby of the Georgian Terrace Hotel across Peachtree from the Fox and reported that he had been shot during a robbery about a block away.

Jones said Monfette told police that “while walking on Peachtree Street a black male wearing a dark hoodie sweatshirt approached him from behind, grabbed him and told him to give him his money.

“The victim struggled and was hit in the face,” Jones said. “As the victim attempted to run away, he was shot in the arm.”

Monfette was taken to Atlanta Medical Center, where he was in stable condition.

Jones said the investigation is ongoing to determine if the two incidents are related.

Harris has been charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault for the incident at Peachtree and 3rd.

Two passengers in the PT Cruiser, Keith Webb, 17, and Birsa Villanueva, 34, were each charged with being a party to a crime.
