An Atlanta man was sentenced to 30 years prison for the death of a friend whom he admitted to choking, then dousing his body with grease and salt.

Manilito Dunlap, 39, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and burglary in the February 2009 death of George Montgomery, 50. A neighbor told Atlanta Police that Dunlap told him he had killed Montgomery inside the victim's Ponce de Leon Avenue apartment.

Dunlap, also known as "Ebo," was arrested three days later. He confessed to the killing, a Fulton County District Attorney's Office spokeswoman said, telling police he and Montgomery were doing drugs together when the victim began making unwanted sexual advances.

Dunlap said he placed his friend in a choke hold and later poured grease and salt on Montgomery's body in an attempt to "wake him."

During his sentencing hearing Monday, an apologetic Dunlap blamed his actions on a longtime crack cocaine addiction, the district attorney's spokeswoman said.
