The 29-year-old man who police said held his mother hostage because she wouldn't iron his clothes has been indicted by a Carroll County grand jury.

Robert Edward Tyrrell, of Villa Rica, will faces charges of aggravated assault and false imprisonment stemming from the June incident, according to the indictment, obtained by the AJC.

Tyrrell was arrested after his mother told police her son held her hostage for several hours and took her cell phone and car keys, police said. He also pointed a rifle at her, according to the indictment.

"He wanted her to do some ironing, and when she said ‘no,' they got into an argument," Sgt. Marc Griffith with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office previously told the AJC. "He told her ‘ironing is woman's work.' "

Tyrrell allegedly held his mother for six hours before she was able to leave the home and drive to a police station, police said. Tyrrell later surrendered to deputies and was booked into the Carroll County jail, where he remained Tuesday.

The case will now go to the district attorney's office.
