Fayette County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a Thursday night shooting that left a man hospitalized.

Deputies responding to a 7:40 p.m. report of a person shot along Ga. 138 near the Clayton County line found the 56-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, sheriff’s spokesman Brent Rowan said.

The victim was walking home from work when he was attacked, according to Rowan.

A witness gave deputies the description of two suspects, both black males, 18 to 25 years old, and both shirtless and wearing blue jeans which were “slightly rolled up at the bottom,” Rowan said. One suspect was about 6 feet tall, the other slightly shorter.

The suspects were last seen running south on Commerce Street. Deputies tracked the men to a commercial storage area at the dead end of Commerce Street, where they lost the trail.

The victim is being treated at Atlanta Medical Center. His name and condition have not been released.
