The family of a native southwest Atlanta man killed two years ago when he returned home is asking for help solving the crime.
Gregory Smith was shot to death outside his mother’s home on Campbellton Road on Aug. 7, 2010, the victim of mistaken identity, investigators believe.
On Saturday, Smith’s family plans to hold a rally to honor his memory and to attempt to stir up information that can help detectives solve the case.
“Hopefully, someone can speak on this so we can have some answers,” Smith’s wife, Donna Smith, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Family and friends of Smith will meet at the south end of Greenbriar Mall – near the old Magic Johnson Cinemas – at 10:45 a.m., then return to the neighborhood where the shooting happened to pass out fliers and knock on doors.
“Maybe someone at this point will see the family together in unity and see that … we are not going to take no for an answer,” Donna Smith said.
Anyone interested in helping canvass is asked to meet at Greenbriar Mall, at 2841 Greenbriar Parkway Southwest, Atlanta, or call Donna Smith at 205-441-5732.
A reward is being offered by Crime Stoppers Atlanta for information leading to an arrest or conviction in the case. Anonymous tips can be called in to 404-577-8477.
