Marietta police are trying to identify the man who, wearing Walmart clothes and a nametag, was able to get into the Cobb Parkway store while it was closed and then rob it.

The man used an unlocked door to enter the store on 1175 Cobb Parkway South around 5 a.m. -- an hour before it was set to open -- Marietta Police Detective Gwen Lewis told WSB-Radio.

He was wearing a Walmart shirt and Walmart cap, as well as a Walmart nametag, Lewis told WSB Radio.

“(He was) dressed in Walmart employee clothes hoping to blend in,” Lewis told WSB Radio.

The man hid behind the customer service counter, police said.

He then pulled a gun on a Walmart employee, forced her into an office and took an undisclosed amount of money, Lewis told WSB Radio.

He ran off toward Terrell Mill Road. Investigators think he got into a car that was waiting nearby, Lewis said.

Lewis told WSB Radio, despite wearing the Walmart clothes and nametag, investigators aren’t sure whether he is a Walmart employee.

If he is, “we don’t think he is an employee at that particular store,” she told WSB Radio.

The man was wearing a gray hoodie that was zipped up around the Walmart shirt. He also was wearing beige pants and gloves.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Ohmann at 770-794-5372 or the Marietta Police Department Tip line at 770-794-6990.
