An elderly man struck by a pickup truck as he walked his dog in late October has died, police said Monday.

John L. Turner, 79, had been in critical condition since the Oct. 28 hit-and-run on Carlton Road in the south Fulton town of Palmetto. Turner, of Palmetto, died Thursday from his injuries, according to Sgt. Lee Gragg with the Palmetto Police Department.

The man accused of hitting Turner, James Calvin Wood Sr., could face additional charges, Gragg said.

Wood, 77, of Chattahoochee Hills allegedly left the scene after hitting Turner, but a broken headlight on the road was consistent with damage to Wood's Ford F-150, police previously said. Wood was arrested four days later.

Turner, a resident of an adult care facility, was left lying in the road until passersby called 911, police said. Turner was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition, and investigators asked for the public's help in finding the person responsible.

The funeral for Turner, who was born in England, will be Tuesday. McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan is handling arrangements. In addition to four children, Turner is survived by 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, according to the funeral home.
