A Norcross man died late Monday night when he jumped from an interstate overpass onto I-85 in Gwinnett County, police said.
According to a Gwinnett police report, an officer saw LaMonte A. Shaw, 38, sitting on the Center Way overpass above I-85 northbound just before 11 p.m. Monday.
The officer "attempted to speak to the male, but Shaw leaped off the overpass before he could be stopped," the report stated. Shaw died at the scene.
While police were investigating, family members came to the scene looking for Shaw.
"They said they knew to look for him on Center Way because he left a suicide note at his home and on Facebook that said he was going to jump off the Center Way bridge," the report stated. "Shaw's wallet and phone were both left on the bridge by Shaw before he jumped so he could be identified."
Police found Shaw's vehicle parked at a nearby convenience store.
