Man dies after shooting at Marietta apartment complex

A Marietta man found shot behind the wheel of a wrecked car died Thursday morning from his injuries, police say.

Daniel Perez, 18, was discovered by police officers Wednesday night when officers responded to reports of an auto accident in the parking lot of the Marquis Apartment Complex at 1019 Franklin Road.

It appeared, investigators say that Perez had driven the car into two other parked cars.

But it was unclear if he was driving at the time he was shot, Marietta police spokesman Officer David Baldwin told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“He did have the car in gear and was getting ready to leave just prior to him hitting the other cars,” Baldwin said.

Police said a suspect fled the scene on foot, running through the apartment complex. Investigators describe the suspect as a black male between 20 and 30 years old,  between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-9, with a thin build. He was last seen wearing dark-colored jeans and a white hooded jacket.

The case has now become a murder investigation, and police are asking anyone with information on the case to call the investigator at 770-794-5324.
