A construction worker was in critical condition Tuesday night after being struck by a car on Mars Hill Road in Cobb County.

The man, whose name was not released, sustained a head injury when he was struck around 4:20 p.m. in front of Durham Middle School, Officer Joe Hernandez with Cobb County police told the AJC.

The man, employed at a nearby construction site, was trying to cross the road when he was hit by a Suzuki Vitara. He was flown to Atlanta Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

The driver of the Vitara, who stopped after striking the man, is not expected to face charges, Hernandez said.
