Man charged with arson in hotel fire that sent 10 to hospital

June 21, 2015

An Atlanta man has been charged with arson in connection with a Fulton County hotel fire that sent 10 people — including a firefighter — to the hospital.

Channel 2 Action News reported that fire crews were called to the Days Inn on the 3900 block of Fulton Industrial Boulevard just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The blaze was contained to a single room but smoke forced all of the hotel’s 50 or so guests to evacuate.

Nine of the guests were rushed to the hospital, Channel 2 reported. Their conditions were unclear.

A firefighter was also taken to the hospital but was expected to be “fine,” Channel 2 reported.

Fulton County fire spokesman Lt. Scott McBridge said 42-year-old Roger Solomon was arrested Saturday and charged with arson and two counts of aggravated assault. Online records showed he remained in the Fulton County jail as of early Sunday evening.

No further information was immediately available.

Hotel owner Kaylash Master told Channel 2 on Saturday that he believed that the fire was started by a guest who was smoking in his room. It was unclear Sunday if Solomon was the same man.
