A Macon woman has been charged with arson several months after fire investigators say she set two separate fires at businesses in Gwinnett County.
Barbara Ann Stevenson, 48, was taken into custody Thursday as she approached her apartment in Macon and was transported back to the Gwinnett detention center, fire-arson investigators say.
Authorities would not say why Stevenson set the entrance doors of two businesses on fire at the Avalon Ridge Parkway shopping center in May. They also would not say what her connection was to the businesses. Workers discovered the fire damage.
“There was certainly potential for loss of life or heavy damage to property,” Gwinnett Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge in a release. He said the businesses were closed at the time and no one was injured.
Stevenson is charged with two-counts of first-degree arson, two-counts of terroristic threats/acts, and one count of criminal trespass. If convicted, she could face one to 20 years in prison and fines.
