Prospective millionaires were lining up Friday to buy Mega Millions lottery tickets.
The jackpot for Friday night's drawing is estimated to be $144 million.
A single winner would take home $89 million if they chose the cash option, or $5.5 million a year for 26 years if they chose the annuity option. Winners also have to pay 31 percent in taxes (25 percent federal, 6 percent state) on all winnings over $5,000.
Beginning Sunday, Georgia will be joining 10 of the 12 Mega Millions jurisdictions that also sell Powerball tickets.
The multi-state Powerball is available in 33 states or territories, and is generally considered the largest lottery in the U.S.
The largest Powerball jackpot of $365 million occurred on February 18, 2006, and was won by a single ticket in Nebraska
On March 6, 2007, a Mega Millions jackpot worth $390 million was split by two tickets, one each from Georgia and New Jersey. To date, this is the largest recorded payout in the world.
Powerball drawings are held Wednesday and Saturday at 11 p.m.; Mega Millions drawings Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m.
