If you’re waiting until Sunday afternoon to return from a holiday weekend road trip, plan on a soggy drive home.

The weather should be dry for Saturday afternoon’s Georgia-Georgia Tech football game at Bobby Dodd Stadium, but Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said Sunday will begin cloudy, with rain arriving during the afternoon and continuing through the night and into Monday.

The chance of rain is 80 percent Sunday and Monday, and Nitz said the rain could be heavy at times.

The rain should taper off Monday night, and with colder temperatures moving in, forecasters at the National Weather Service said that some areas, particularly across for north Georgia, could see a little frozen precipitation by daybreak Tuesday. However, the ground should be too warm for any snow or sleet to accumulate.

Nitz said afternoon temperatures across metro Atlanta should reach the mid-60s on Saturday and Sunday before topping out around 50 degrees on Monday and Tuesday.

Lows will be in the mid-50s Saturday night, upper 40s Sunday night and mid-30s Monday night.
