A locksmith was shot early Monday morning in southwest Atlanta, when he was called to open a locked daycare van, police said.
Chachir Erraki arrived at the 300 block of Kelly Street sometime before 2 a.m., and opened the door.
“At that point, someone shot him,” Atlanta Police spokesman John Chafee said.
Erracki, 46, remains in critical condition in Grady Memorial Hospital, police say.
The van, police say, was stolen.
Charles Lovett, the owner of the van, owns KidStop Daycare on Campbellton Road, and told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the van was one of two stolen when prowlers broke into his daycare center last month.
Lovett said bandits broke into his daycare center’s office and stole $150 in cash, and the keys to both vans, and defecated in a trash can in the office.
Police continue to investigate.
