A Northeast Atlanta school reportedly lost llamas around 3 a.m. Tuesday, but were able to capture them quickly.

An employee with the Horizons School near DeKalb Avenue and Sutherland Terrace told the AJC the llamas were captured after 30 minutes.

"It's fairly easy," administrator Les Garber said. "You bring them some food and they come charging."

Garber said the llamas escaped after children in the boarding school program who were sleeping over at the school left the llamas' gate open.

The school,  a private k-12 institution, has the animals for part of its curriculum, Garber said.

"Part of our program is to introduce children to different animals," he said.

The school also has chickens and swans, a garden and a sustainable agricultural program for high school students.

Police said no incident report was filed.

In February, a Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey zebra escaped from a training and exercise area and roamed downtown streets. The zebra was euthanized after suffering injuries to its hooves.

A week later, a bison fell off a truck along I-20 and was hit by a car traveling eastbound. The bison was euthanized after suffering injuries to two legs.
