Lilburn set to rollback millage rate

Lilburn will hold a special called meeting to set the 2015 millage rate at 7:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 76 Main Street.

Georgia requires the city council to set its millage rate annually for the upcoming year as it applies to real and personal property within the city’s corporate limits. Lilburn is set to decrease the millage rate by .02 percent to 4.43 mills, down from 4.45 in 2014.

However, the city expects to collect a total of $20,874 more in property taxes, about 1.3 percent more than 2014. The increase is the result of higher assessed property values in Gwinnett. Because the total amount of taxes collected citywide will increase, the state considers this a tax increase and requires three public hearings.

Two of those meetings were held June 29 and the final on July 2.
