Alpharetta and Sandy Springs police forces have license plate scanners.

Alpharetta Police officer John Allen patrols the North Point Mall parking lot using an infrared cameras to rapidly scan license plates. Sandy Springs and Alpharetta have remote license plate readers, high-tech devices mounted on a car that can scan hundreds of license plates a minute.
