Hours after a gas leak prompted officials to evacuate Lenox Square, most of the popular Buckhead mall was open for business.

About 5:40 a.m., security called “to report the smell of gas in the truck tunnel under the mall,” Atlanta police spokesman Officer Donald Hannah said.

Lenox Square was evacuated just before 6:30 a.m. Only a few security and maintenance workers were at the mall at the time, Hannah said.

Atlanta firefighters were investigating the cause of the leak.

“Lenox Square mall management and security are working closely with the Atlanta Fire Rescue to take the appropriate measures to help ensure the safety of those individuals in the mall,” mall officials said in a statement.

Only one restaurant was affected by the gas leak. California Pizza Kitchen planned to reopen at 4 p.m., host Mello Stokes said. Businesses at the mall typically open at 10 a.m. during the week.
