An individual who died after being pulled from Lake Lanier on Thursday afternoon has been identified as a 44-year-old Cumming man.

The Forsyth County Coroner's office identified the victim as Rodrigo Bernal Trejo.

The man disappeared in the water around 3 p.m. and was recovered by Forsyth County rescue crews within an hour, Forsyth fire spokesman Capt. Jason Shivers told the AJC.

Family and friends witnessed the man disappear in the water near a picnic area at West Bank Park off Buford Dam Road and notified a park attendant, who then called 911, Shivers said. Crews did an initial surface search, then were able to locate the man on the first underwater dive thanks to the location information provided by the witnesses, he said.

The man was found about 50 feet off shore in 11 feet of water, Shivers said. He was not breathing, and crews performed CPR before transporting him to Northside Hospital Forsyth, where he was pronounced dead.
