Cumming city officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday to open an additional stretch of Lanier 400 Parkway, which previously ended at the Forsyth County Juvenile Court complex off Bald Ridge Marina Road. The four-lane stretch now extends to Pilgrim Mill Road.
City officials said the project’s completion had been slowed by foul winter weather and that sidewalks remain to be installed, with that anticipated by early summer.
Spokeswoman Crystal Ledford said city officials think the extension will draw new businesses because of its proximity to the Cumming Aquatic Center, the Forsyth University of North Georgia campus and the Georgia National Guard Regional Readiness Center. They also think it will help relieve traffic along Ga. 400 between the Bald Ridge Marina and Pilgrim Mill exits.
The $5.2 million project was financed through a combination of sources including SPLOST revenue and the city of Cumming’s general fund and took a little more than a year to complete.
