A man was killed in a three-vehicle crash on I-575 in Cherokee County that shut down the interstate for several hours overnight.

Canton police and Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash on I-575 North at Ga. 140 about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

“Investigators determined a vehicle traveling northbound lost control and rolled over before coming to rest in the middle of the interstate,” sheriff’s spokesman Jay Baker said in a statement. “That vehicle was struck by two additional vehicles traveling northbound.”

The driver of the overturned vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene. He was identified by police as Robert Allan Stone, 22, of Canton.

Another driver was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with injuries but is expected to recover. The third driver and their passenger were not injured, Baker said.

The sheriff’s office is leading an investigation into the crash. The cause has not yet been determined.

Authorities have not filed any charges Wednesday.
