Fifteen people were killed in wrecks across the state over the Memorial Day weekend, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Local police and sheriff's departments investigated nine of the fatalities, while the GSP investigated 332 wrecks that resulted in 196 injuries and six fatalities, according to GSP spokesman Gordy Wright.

Wright said state troopers arrested 282 people for driving under the influence during the holiday period, which began at 6 p.m. on Friday and ended at midnight on Memorial Day.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a contributing factor in any of fatal crashes investigated by the GSP, Wright said.

Four of the 15 fatalities occurred in metro Atlanta -- three in Cobb County and one in Gwinnett County.
