A husband and wife were killed and their daughter was injured Friday in a house fire in downtown Rockmart, officials said.

The couple were identified as Clifford Singleton, 73, and Mary Singleton, 65, according to Glenn Allen of the state insurance commissioner’s office.

Their daughter, Melissa, 39, was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital’s burn unit, Allen said. She has first- and second-degree burns.

The blaze happened on Sciple Street near Railroad Street. Channel 2 Action News reported that police are investigating the fire as a case of arson.

Allen later said state fire officials are also looking at a portable propane heater as a possible cause.

Rockmart is more than 45 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta.
