Kennesaw State University is opening its new "green" dining hall this week, complete with composting, recycling and locally grown produce.
The university is set to cut the ribbon on the new facility Thursday morning, a week before classes begin for the fall semester Aug. 15. The 54,000-square-foot dining hall will feature vegan and gluten-free food, compostable paper products, an onsite herb garden and a trayless cafeteria to help conserve water.
The university is seeking Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or "LEED," certification for the facility.
Kennesaw State has about 20,000 students on its campus in the northern Atlanta suburbs.
