"Todayyy is the greateeeest day I've ever known" is how the 1993 hit "Today" by the Smashing Pumpkins begins.

That day is coming Thursday in Marietta.

Kennesaw State University is hosting the eighth pumpkin launching event at its Marietta campus. This is a Southern Polytechnic University tradition that has carried over after the two schools merged in 2013.

First-year mechanical engineering students will be showcasing the designs and mechanisms they built to launch pumpkins.
