The freshman student who was found dead Monday morning at the base of a Kennesaw State University parking deck fell to her death, officials said Tuesday.

Miranda Leigh Whiteway, 20, of Sandy Springs, suffered "multiple blunt injuries, consistent with the sudden impact from a fall," KSU director of university relations Frances Weyand Harrison said in a written statement.

Whiteway, who lived on campus, was discovered lying on the ground near the campus Central Parking Deck off Frey Road around 7:50 a.m. Monday.

KSU police asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to examine the body, and the GBI completed an autopsy Tuesday.

The investigation determined that Whiteway was not the victim of foul play, the KSU statement said, echoing earlier comments by provost Leland Black.

Black told the AJC on Monday that someone called campus police after discovering the body near the base of the six-story parking deck. He had few details about the investigation, but he tried to calm any fears of a killer on the loose: "We can say that there's no reason to believe there's a threat to the community," he said at the time.

The campus statement issued Tuesday said it will take several weeks to produce a toxicology report and conclude a final autopsy on Whiteway.
