Kathy Cox visits displaced students

Georgia Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox visited the kids who lost their school, Clarkdale Elementary, to flooding last week. The kids and their teachers are at Austell Intermediate School and Compton Elementary. Cox also toured Clarkdale on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009.

Austell Intermediate School is housing more than 200 of the Clarkdale students. Another 200 are now at Compton Elementary School, which Kathy Cox also toured.

The children from Clarkdale sit together with their same classmates and teachers to reduce the stress of the transition.

Pamela Schiftic, a Clarkdale Elementary faculty member now at Austell Intermediate, holds one of the stuffed animals that was given to students from Clarkdale.

This keyboard was one of the many items destroyed. The Cobb County School District is waiting for a settlement from its insurance company.

Ruined items like this copier were placed in the school's lunchroom for inventory.
